Alpha Xi Delta

Alpha Beta at Cornell University

Chapter Philanthropy

Alpha Xi Delta is honored to have the opportunity to help shine a light on autism. We believe the autism community is represented by a beautifully diverse group of people who possess many talents and work to overcome a variety of challenges. We have recently begun a partnership with the Racker Center, a local organization that has provided strength-based support for individuals with disabilities and their families in Tompkins and surrounding counties for over 70 years. Guided by the vision of a world where all people know they belong, Racker offers programs and services to more than 3,500 people, helping them to build lasting connections and lead fulfilling lives.

Since volunteering at Racker, our chapter members have connected with some amazing individuals and we have become more motivated in our philanthropic work. Through forming these relationships, we have become more connected with Autism Speaks’ updated focus to create greater understanding and acceptance of autism. Autism Speaks updated its mission in order to best serve those touched by autism through all levels of support. This updated focus, as well as our connections with the local community, has fueled us to work hard and raise money, so that we can continue to spread this message of understanding and acceptance.

Autism Speaks Gala

This past fall, our chapter began a new philanthropic tradition with the first annual Autism Speaks Gala. This event provides friends and family of Alpha Xi Delta with an opportunity to learn more about our partnerships, both locally and nationally, with Racker and Autism Speaks. Our first gala was a huge success and we are so excited to continue this tradition in the coming years!

Chill by the Grill

Every spring, our chapter hosts Chill by the Grill, a barbecue to benefit our national philanthropy. Sisters, friends, and many members of the Cornell community come to provide support, enjoy good food, and socialize. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales and other contributions go to Autism Speaks. We're proud to host such an incredible event that allows our sisters and guests to support such a powerful cause while enjoying the spring sun.

Light it Up Blue

April is Autism Awareness Month. On April 2nd we wear blue with Alpha Xi Deltas around the world to honor National Autism Awareness Day, and we light our house blue for the duration of the month to show our support and to spread awareness for our cause.
